Beauty as an Act of Protection

March 22, 20262 min read

There comes a point in the maturation of the spiritual aspirant when you stop seeking more energy or awakening and instead ask “What am I going to do with all of this awareness/energy?”

This point arrives in moments when we are so saturated with light that our nervous system swells in an effort to sustainably hold the experience of being with all that Is. At that moment, we realize that the most benevolent and perhaps only thing we can do is create, and to create the most beautiful thing that we can.

When we’ve maximized all perception, it must eventually spill over into expression. That expression might be poetry, painting, dance or song but there must be a way in which that light now emanates from us.

Simultaneously there is a process of purification that occurs. We realize to create art and beauty that is actually and truly beautiful, we must contact and alchemize the unconsciousness, fear, sadness or pain that exists within us.

It’s not that fear, sadness or pain are wrong, bad or need to be eliminated. We must have the capacity to access them, but the beauty, the creation, the art is a way that we exorcise them.Any pain, discomfort or challenge becomes an offering to something more that the self when we set like a ship on the current of beauty and let it be carried in the hearts of humanity and nature.

When we purify ourselves through beauty, that beauty in turn becomes perfection. This perfection is not in a seeking or obsessive way, but in the way that all things that are truly perfect are. They are perfect because they are themselves. Without pretense, without effort or striving. They are what they are.

As we go through this process of purification we become what we fundamentally are, and a third thing arises. You become increasingly bright to the world as a source of light and that light inherently protects. The protection occurs because evil doesn’t have a place to land.Evil seeks what is unconscious or rejected. Those on the path of beauty have embraced what is unconscious or previously rejected and invited them back in, honored them and sanctified them. This sanctification of the unconscious and rejected creates the beauty and gives evil no place to enter.

So, when you create, create in a way that honors the hidden. Sing from the place of your deepest desire. Paint for the fulfillment of your dreams. Dance the feeling of the harmony of all beings.Let those creations be so fundamental, felt, real that they can’t help but be beautiful. They can’t help but put shine a light that casts out the dark. They can’t help but create an impenetrable boundary. This is how beauty becomes protection.
